A dedicated team provides acute care for adult and pediatric patients with conditions ranging from low acuity to life-threatening. The ED features modern, dedicated resources for pediatric, cardiovascular, orthopedic, and behavioral health patients, while promoting safe, efficient, patient-centered care.
WellSpan York Hospital is an accredited Level I Regional Resource Trauma Center, serving injured patients from across a three-county service area. Additionally, designation as a Comprehensive Stroke Center and a Chest Pain Center ensures 24/7 access to advanced care for the most complex patients.
In the last several years the ED has improved the quality of patient care by reinvigorating the nursing shared governance system, creating a Quality Improvement Specialist role, and redesigning the nursing professional development model. Recent throughput initiatives aimed at optimizing triage, expediting care, and decreasing length of stay have improved access to timely care in the ED. These initiatives have enabled the department to find a way to improve the care of all patients. WellSpan York Hospital ED is honored to be a two-time recipient of the ENA Lantern Award.
