After Hurricane Helene caused destruction, injuries and loss of life, North Carolina ENA Council leadership recognized there remained a great need to help those who helped others. The council created the North Carolina ENA ED Nurses Disaster Relief Program, focused on sending care packages to the region’s 25 hospitals and a freestanding ED. The program includes an Amazon registry for the purchase of snacks, as well as personal care and stress relief items, which the council shared among ENA colleagues in North Carolina and beyond. Individuals, chapters, other state councils and international partners responded by making registry purchases and monetary contributions. Donations, including artwork from a local elementary school, were packaged for distribution by North Carolina ENA leadership and shipped or delivered personally to the emergency departments.
