Tanner Medical Center Villa Rica Emergency Department, a critical access point for emergency care across three Georgia counties, developed two initiatives to enhance patient throughput and satisfaction. The 37-bed ED now has a designated overflow space and a dedicated fast-track area.
The overflow unit, originally developed by the ED team and now staffed by inpatient nurses, offloads admitted patients boarding in the ED. This collaboration reduces ED nurse workload, preserves department capacity and ensures continuity of care for admitted patients. The fast-track area expedites care for lower-acuity patients, reducing overall wait times and improving flow. As a result, the department has lowered its left-without-being-seen rate to below 1.3 percent while consistently maintaining high patient satisfaction.
