SMCS ED has a Clinical Decision Area, Psychiatric Response Team, Sepsis Navigator Nurses, and a Substance Use Navigator. We are a Comprehensive Cardiac and Comprehensive Stroke Center and are on the Maternity Care and Opioid Honor Roll from California Hospital Compare.
Our ED nurses are active in advocacy at the state and federal level, participate in disaster drills with local Fire and EMS, and provide evidenced-based care through harm prevention processes such as medication assisted treatment. New graduate nurses are supported through transition to practice classes and a new graduate RN residency with a high rate of retention. As a non-trauma center, annual training includes simulation about trauma and other high risk patient populations which has resulted in increased confidence among the staff in their knowledge, skills, and abilities. We are proud of achieving an honor that recognizes our commitment to excellence in emergency care.
