Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital Emergency Department
The Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital emergency department team successfully implemented two pivotal initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care and staff education. The first program involved the introduction of a physician-in-triage model operating 10 hours daily, five days per week. As a direct outcome, the left-without-being-seen rate dropped significantly, from 10 percent to less than 1.5 percent. This reduction ensured more timely and appropriate care delivery, thereby improving patient outcomes and satisfaction with the department that treated approximately

The second initiative focused on advancing clinical education through innovative and experiential learning strategies within the emergency department. The team integrated simulation training alongside creative learning environments, such as escape rooms, designed to promote teamwork and critical thinking. These escape rooms require multidisciplinary collaboration to solve clinical puzzles to reinforce essential medical knowledge in an engaging manner. The initial escape room centered on the recognition of posterior strokes, facilitating enhanced understanding of this critical condition.
