Sharp Grossmont Hospital Emergency Department cares for the most patients in the County of San Diego and is one of the busiest emergency departments in the nation, seeing greater than 110,000 patients annually. They recently earned a national Gold Standard Level 1 accreditation by the American College of Emergency Physicians, the highest standard of care for older adults and became the first hospital in the county to receive Sepsis certification from The Joint Commission, one of only 10 recipients in California. Sharp Grossmont Hospital Emergency Department has a dedicated mental health care area servicing over 6,000 patients annually to care for their specific needs and the needs of the community. Sharp Grossmont Hospital Emergency Department is a designated stroke center which allows for comprehensive care for patients around the clock with complex stroke cases. Most recently Sharp Grossmont Hospital Emergency Department has been selected to participate in a San Diego County pilot program for eCPR (Extracorporeal Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation). Sharp Grossmont Hospital is one of three hospitals in San Diego County that were selected to participate in the pilot program. Sharp Memorial Hospital Emergency Department was the first in San Diego to receive ENA’s prestigious Lantern Award and has received the Lantern recognition for the 4th consecutive time, achieving Lantern designation longer than any other ED in California.
