a bedside violence-intervention program, survivors of gun violence are connected with trained community responders who provide immediate support and link patients to long-term resources. The Regions Hospital ED Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee further advances community health through Narcan kit-packing events to expand access to overdose-prevention resources. Combined with injury-prevention, Stop the Bleed, car-seat safety and fall-prevention initiatives, these partnerships promote health equity, resilience, safety and recovery throughout the community.

The 64-bed emergency department provides innovative trauma-informed behavioral health care through specialized training, interdisciplinary team assessments and a dedicated mental health pod designed to promote safety and healing. All ED staff receive advanced behavioral health and workplace violence-prevention education, while initiatives such as Safety Huddles, BERT response teams and autism-support toolkits enhance care for diverse patient populations. Through environmental modifications, therapeutic programming and collaboration among nursing, social work, security and behavioral health partners, the ED has improved patient engagement, reduced behavioral escalations and strengthened safety for patients, families, and staff.
