Collaboratively, the entire ED team at Rady Children’s Hospital – San Diego has worked diligently to achieve the following

initiatives and more. Key actions were needed to address the consistently increasing high-volume census. The addition of 21 flex beds and a redesigned triage flow exponentially improving patient time to see provider. Additionally, the team worked to enhance the behavioral health intake process through integrating the security team, standardized contraband checks and wanding protocols, documentation, and warm hand-off between care providers to improve the safety and quality of care for patients in their times of crisis.
Celebrating 30 years as the only ED dedicated solely to children in San Diego County, Rady Children’s Hospital is a highly sought-after care provider locally and internationally for specialized services. As a Magnet-designated organization, RCH has recently been named by U.S. News & World Report to its 2023-2024 Best Children’s Hospitals Honor Roll. The ED team provides family-centered care to more than 100,000 patients per year in the 42-bed ED.
