Palomar Medical Center Escondido Emergency Department

Escondido, California

Palomar Medical Center Escondido’s (PMCE) Emergency Department (ED) is a leader in providing extraordinary care to patients in their vulnerable time of need. Staffed by their world-class team of board-certified physicians, physician assistants, nurses and medical staff, over 100,000 patients receive superior and personalized emergency care annually. This emergency department has also facilitated collaborative working relationships between nurses and physicians, as well as staff development and education opportunities.

As a Level II Trauma Center consisting of 72 licensed beds and various state-of-the-art diagnostic services, patients are confident that they can expect the highest quality medical attention. Some of these technologies include ultrasonography, magnetic resonance imaging, 64-Slice computed tomography scanners and an exceptional stroke and STEMI center.

Additionally, the PMCE ED is constantly looking for new ways to improve the overall patient experience. This is evident through the success of innovative programs such as the Ambulance Offload Line project, which ensures patients are treated in a timely fashion, the Verti-Care initiative, a fast-track process for lower acuity patients, and their hospital-wide capacity plan to decrease overcrowding, all of which led to their prestigious recognition from the Emergency Nurse Association (ENA). Palomar Medical Center Escondido’s esteemed Emergency Department is honored to have been chosen as a Lantern Award recipient.
