OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital Emergency Department

OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, a five-time Magnet-designated facility and a Level II trauma center, is recognized for its commitment to nursing excellence and high-quality patient care and safety in its 110-bed emergency department.

To enhance safety within the behavioral health population, nursing-led safety rounds play a vital role in proactively identifying and addressing potential risks to both patients and staff. Building on this initiative, the multidisciplinary team added an evening safety huddle to foster open discussion of patient concerns and enhance care coordination. As a result, the emergency  department has seen a measurable reduction in the use of patient restraints and incidents of assaults against staff.

The department also worked to lower the frequency of patients leaving without being seen, which contributes to a heightened risk of unmet medical needs and adverse outcomes. To address this challenge, the OhioHealth Riverside Triage Team works diligently to streamline patient flow and eliminate barriers to care. A dedicated customer service nurse follows up with patients who leave without being seen, encouraging them to return for necessary treatment. This proactive outreach has led to an increase in patients returning for care and improved patient satisfaction scores.
