Queens Hospital, an ANCC Pathway to Excellence-designated organization, offers medical, surgical, specialty care and outpatient services to more than 2.3 million people in central and southeastern Queens. The 60-bed emergency department serves a diverse patient population with more than 77,000 emergency visits annually.

The emergency department has received accolades for its excellence in patient care, including awards for LGBTQ+ healthcare equality and recognition as one of the most racially inclusive EDs in America. It is certified by the Joint Commission as Primary Stroke Center and accredited by ACEP as a Geriatric ED.

The department implemented the Early Care Model focusing on issues that affect wait times. It resulted in a significant reduction in the rate of patients left without being seen, now averaging 1.41 percent annually. The ED team made significant strides in sepsis management, achieving a more than 50 percent reduction in risk-adjusted mortality. Bar code medication administration is 96 percent, and the RN hours per patient visit averages more than 2.6 hours. Finally, restraint usage has reduced by 0.8 percent.
