NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan Emergency Department
New York, New York
As part of the country’s largest municipal hospital and health care system, NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan works to fulfil the mission of ensuring that the medically underserved have access to high quality medical services regardless of their immigration status or ability to pay. The 25-bed ED sees more than 57,000 visits annually.
ED nurses and providers collaborate to provide equitable patient care and improve patient outcomes, resulting in early recognition and treatment of sepsis. The ED team significantly reduced patient walkouts by implementing twice-daily huddles to improve communication, incorporating Palm Vein Scanner technology to streamline triage and registration, utilizing patient escorts for transportation, and collaborating with other departments to expedite patient throughput.
NYC Health + Hospital/Metropolitan is a true community partner, providing resources to the community, including supporting local activities and targeted health education for its diverse patient population. NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan has been consistently recognized for patient safety and quality by The Leapfrog Group; National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA); American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Beacon Award for Excellence; Pride Center of Excellence; and the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association Get with the Guidelines Stroke and Heart Failure Achievement Awards.
