patients annually. Highlights of the ED’s staff-led initiatives include improvements in streamlining patient flow and throughput, workplace violence and prevention, and promoting a healthy work environment. The focus on staff well-being led to the implementation of a mental health day, which staff can use following an especially challenging shift without concern or stigma; wellness rounds and mini yoga sessions to promote wellness. North Shore University Hospital is honored to have been selected as a 2024 Lantern Award two-time recipient.

Located in Manhasset, New York, North Shore University Hospital is the flagship hospital of Northwell Health, the largest health care system in New York State. It is a 756-bed academic and quaternary care facility which supports some of the most advanced, comprehensive clinical services delivered on site. North Shore University Hospital’s accomplishments include Magnet Designation for Nursing Excellence, the first rapidly growing heart transplant program created and launched on Long Island, American College of Surgeons Level 1 trauma designation, Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center designation and SAFE Center designation.
