Miami, Florida

Nicklaus Children’s Hospital is South Florida’s only specialty-licensed, freestanding children’s hospital. With five specialty programs routinely recognized among the best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, the 309-bed hospital is home to one of the most-visited emergency departments in the nation. This department features 60 emergency beds and four trauma bays, part of the Miguel “Mike” B. Fernandez Trauma Center, an American College of Surgeons-verified level I trauma center. The department delivers compassionate care to approximately 100,000 patient visits each year. It is comprised of more than 250 clinicians, including a Magnet-designated nursing team, and over 500 pediatric subspecialists. As part of a commitment to continuous process improvement, the department succeeded in reducing its average “left without being seen” percentage to less than 2 percent within the first two quarters of 2023.

The Emergency Department takes pride in its multidisciplinary approach to serving South Florida’s pediatric community. The team utilizes a family-centered approach to care and prioritizes safety, quality and the patient experience. With a dedication to innovation, patient well-being and a commitment to excellence, the department is a beacon of hope for children in need of urgent medical attention.
