Nationwide Children’s Emergency Department at main campus
Nationwide Children’s main campus emergency department includes 59 beds, sees more than 70,000 patients annually and is committed to providing compassionate, efficient and evidence-based emergency care to the pediatric population.
The ED substantially decreased its left-without-being-seen, time-to-nurse assessment, time-to-room, and time-to-provider rates through a strong multi-faceted collaboration of nursing and provider leadership. Several initiatives, including a triage coordinator RN role, improved provider-nurse staffing alignment, and a pull-until-full culture were influential in the department’s
success.
A priority area of focus for the ED is emergency management and preparedness. A multi-disciplinary task force strengthened the emergency management plan through consistent preparedness efforts and facilitation of department-wide training related to major medical events and mass casualty incidents.
