The MetroHealth system, founded in 1837, is a 736-bed safety-net healthcare system providing healthcare to anyone and everyone, regardless of an ability to pay. MetroHealth is a four-time Magnet-designated hospital for Nursing Excellence (2006, 2010, 2015, and 2020)

The 79-bed emergency department cares for more than 66,000 patient visits annually. As a verified Level I adult trauma center, Level 2 pediatric trauma center, comprehensive stroke center, and Level 1 adult & pediatric comprehensive burn center, staff provide a wide range of care and services across the continuum. The robust education program includes high-fidelity simulations incorporated into annual education, de-escalation training, ED-specific equipment competency, and the implementation of a nurse residency program. The Lantern Award provided the opportunity for the MetroHealth System to shine the light on the spectacular care provided to our patients. MetroHealth Medical Center is honored to be selected as a 2023 Lantern Award recipient.
