The department implemented the use of a “pivot” nurse in order to have rapid and timely assessments across the department and quickly identify critically ill patients presenting for care. This enhancement allows the provider to make a time-sensitive diagnosis in order to coordinate complex care efficiently. This initiative has resulted in door-to-triage times under 10 minutes, as well as a left without being seen rate of less than 2 percent.

Another initiative related to safe and efficient care is the implementation of “Code Thrombectomy” due to an increase in stroke patient volume requiring intervention. Through a comprehensive review and shared-decision meetings, Code Thrombectomy was developed as an innovative structured approach for efficient and timely care which led to optimal patient outcomes for a time-sensitive population. With this initiative, door-to-operating room times and door-to-devices times have improved.
