Through one-on-one staff education, detailed chart reviews and ongoing “Trauma Tidbits” learning sessions, staff implemented best practices for trauma patients. The teams’ dedication strengthened patient safety, improved consistency in care and ensured readiness when seconds matter most for critical trauma patients.
Among the improvements in the ED was an improvement in the Massive Transfusion Ratio Protocol compliance, from 91 percent in 2024 to 100 percent in 2025. The department’s left without being seen rate dropped from 3.0 percent to 1.2 percent following a team effort focused on improving patient flow and access to care. By implementing a provider-in-triage model, holding interdisciplinary huddles, partnering with inpatient teams to identify early discharges, reducing ED boarding, opening an observation unit and creating a discharge lounge, the team now moves patients through the system more efficiently and ensures more patients receive the timely care they needed.
