Huntington Hospital Reichert Emergency Department

Communication has been the driving force for the team at Huntington Hospital
Reichert emergency department in its pursuit of quality outcomes and a positive
patient experience. In its efforts to provide that, the team includes the patient every step of the way, from setting expectations at triage to explaining the plan of care and offering medication fact cards. Purposeful, proactive rounding and physician huddles are also key factors in an interactive health care delivery approach that includes patients in their care plans.

Several quality initiatives put into place have improved the 55-bed department’s
clinical outcomes. Sepsis huddles driven by all staff members emphasize that if a patient is identified for SIRS, they are managed in a timely and efficient manner. Additionally, a clinical checklist for PCI management helps ensure the patient is transported to the cath lab as quickly as possible.
