Over the last 1.2 years, our emergency department leaders focused on and were committed to changes in throughput processes, turnover and culture. ED colleagues and providers were an integral part of the decisions and leading-edge, evidence-based strategies that were implemented. The nursing director and team of nurse managers had a clear goal, plan and commitment to improving the quality of care for our patients as well as lowering turnover and improving the culture in the department. We communicated clearly and definitively the vision and the plan to our team of colleagues and providers. We collaborated as a true healthcare team – ideas, questions, and approaches were all heard with an open mind.
The remake of the emergency department has allowed us to serve the community for the better – as we remain laser-focused on quality, efficient patient care. The culture of our emergency department is at an all-time high and turn-over is at an all-time low.
