EMORY Decatur Hospital Emergency Department

The Emory Decatur Hospital emergency department has transformed and redefined patient care, resulting in reduced patient wait times, improved satisfaction and minimized left-without-being-seen rates. By adding a dedicated provider-nurse team at the point of entry, each patient can be immediately evaluated and continuously tracked throughout their stay, ensuring seamless care continuity, reducing time-to- provider from 68 minutes to 9 minutes and LWBS from 9 percent to under 1 percent.

In addition, turnaround times for both admissions and discharges at the 31-bed
emergency department were significantly reduced, leading to a surge in patient
satisfaction scores from 32 percent to 61 percent in just one year even while
experiencing an 11 percent increase in emergency department volume.

By fostering a culture of continuous improvement, every team member—from techs to physicians—help shape the process, build shared ownership, refine performance and position the Emory Decatur Hospital emergency department as a model of high-performing, collaborative and patient-centered care.
