Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York Pediatric Emergency Department
The 30-bed ED at Cohen Children’s Medical Center is dedicated to providing the very best care to meet the special needs of children, from premature babies to adolescents. It is the largest Level 1 pediatric trauma center and the largest pediatric ED in New York State, serving approximately 70,000 pediatric patients annually. In addition, CCMC has been designated twice as a Magnet hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
This is CCMC’s second Lantern Award designation. Through innovative care models, evidence-based advancements, and collaboration with all disciplines, the ED team has delivered safe high-quality care to the most critically ill pediatric patients. In addition, it has invested in the nursing team, leading to consistent lower mobility rates, increased certification rates and annual increases in the department’s engagement scores. These investments have led to improved quality metrics in the areas of sepsis and trauma as well as operational metrics decreasing length of stay and the rate of leaving without being evaluated. The ENA Lantern Award highlights Cohen Children’s Medical Center’s commitment to excellence at CCMC and it is honored to have received this award.
