Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital Emergency Department
Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital’s 34-bed emergency department, which
includes eight fast-track chairs, has achieved notable improvements in sepsis care, patient satisfaction and reducing its left-without-being-seen rate. A revised sepsis protocol now ensures antibiotics are administered within 60 minutes of being ordered. To strengthen coordination between nurses and providers, a hospital-wide overhead sepsis alert system was launched in January 2025, which led to a 7.2 increase in timely antibiotic administration.
To reduce wait times and elevate patient experience, the ED implemented a mass triage protocol that successfully cut waiting room times in half. As a result, Press Ganey scores for “Wait time to treatment area” showed a 21 percent improvement in patient satisfaction. In addition, this streamlined workflow directly moves patients into treatment areas, contributing to a 71 percent decrease in the LWBS rate. Charge nurses and ED leadership closely monitor unassigned patients to ensure consistent quality care. Throughout 2024, the ED maintained an impressive average of just 4 minutes from arrival-to-room and provider evaluation, reinforcing its commitment to safe, efficient and patient-centered care.
