CHRISTUS Children’s Stone Oak Freestanding Emergency Department

Over the past year, this 10-bed freestanding emergency department collaborated
with leaders from the pediatric ED, NICU and pediatric transport team to enhance pediatric readiness across adult facilities in the system. This initiative included developing pediatric supply lists, running simulations and offering readily available expertise to sister facilities. The CHRISTUS Children’s Stone Oak Freestanding ED staff has led hands-on training sessions and worked closely with leadership to identify creative, practical solutions for developing pediatric care in non-pediatric settings. As a result, several adult EDs have acquired vital equipment such as Panda warmers and vein-finds, tools that were previously unavailable and are critical for treating younger patients. This system-wide effort is improving access to appropriate pediatric emergency care and helping to ensure better outcomes for children, no matter where they are treated.
