Centrally located between Philadelphia and Baltimore, Wilmington Hospital has the second busiest emergency department in Delaware, with 58,744 visits in fiscal year 2023. The emergency department includes a helipad for air-medical transport and on-site forensic nurse examiners.
Combined, ChristianaCare’s emergency departments are ranked 12th in the United States and 7th on the East Coast in number of patient visits, according to the American Hospital Association. ChristianaCare is a three-time Magnet®-designated health system.
Wilmington Hospital’s emergency department is a Level III trauma center in the Delaware Trauma System, providing statewide leadership and assistance with trauma response, strategic planning and education to ensure that every individual receives the same high quality care and best possible chance for recovery.
