CHI Health St. Elizabeth Hospital Emergency Department

Lincoln, Nebraska

CHI Health St. Elizabeth, part of CommonSpirit Health ministry, is a 258-bed nonprofit regional medical center that has provided healthcare to the community for 135 years. The Level III trauma center is a five-time recognized ANCC Magnet facility. It is designated by the Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center and is recognized by the AHA and IHI as an Age Friendly Health Facility.

The 33-bed emergency department cares for 27,000 patients annually. Its dedicated pediatric ED has achieved Pediatric Readiness Certification, and the ED has achieved ACEP’s Geriatric ED Accreditation.

To improve patient experience, the ED staff focused on increasing efficiency and reducing wait times by placing an advanced practice provider in triage during high-volume hours. This best practice led to a decrease in left without being seen rate to 0.34%. Additionally, the team has worked diligently to enhance staff engagement within the department through shared nursing governance, allowing everyone’s voice to be heard.

St. Elizabeth Emergency Department is honored to have been selected as a first-time recipient of the Lantern Award in 2024 as recognition of the extraordinary quality of its team.
