included improved door-to-bed times, which now range from five to seven minutes. The department’s left without being seen rate declined from 4.3 percent to 0.5 percent. The ACE length of stay reduced by 27 percent; the Level 4 length of stay dropped from 161 to 137 minutes, and the discharged LOS improved from 224 to 190 minutes. Overall, the timeliness of care satisfaction increased dramatically.

Cheyenne Regional, a 36-bed ED that sees nearly 41,000 patient visits annually, achieved additional success in reducing boarding. Through the “All Together Now” hospital-wide boarding reduction initiative led by frontline nurses working within a shared governance framework, the admission process across the hospital improved. The time from bed request to bed assignment reduced from 30 minutes to 21 minutes. Assignment to admission dropped from nearly one hour to 41 minutes. Overall time from a bed request to admission reduced from 100 to 71 minutes.
