Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Grapevine Emergency Department
Grapevine, Texas
BSWH Grapevine Emergency Department is committed to quality care and excellent patient experience by highlighting two specific initiatives: Stroke Alert and Team Triage processes.
All patients who present to the ED as a walk-in or via EMS with stroke symptoms will get recognized and announced overhead as a “Stroke Alert.” These patients go directly to our ED CT scanner to expedite their initial CT scan. This overhead page also alerts all key players to respond to the CT scanner. The commitment to this process has helped BSWH Grapevine maintain performance for Door to CT below our goal time consistently.
Team Triage is a process that benefits the patient and team. When a patient arrives to the ED the team immediately beds the patient to an open exam room. “Team Triage” is paged overhead to expedite resources to respond to the room to help onboard and triage the new arrival. The primary goal is to get the patient in front of a provider as soon as possible. In addition, there is the benefit of several team members performing tasks that help get the patients treatment and interventions started. This team focused approach also helps build teamwork and decrease the stress of the primary nurse.
