satellite ED renovation, the unit-based council led initiatives to minimize disruptions to patient care. Implementing small tests of change, the team optimized direct bedding, redesigned triage workflows and strategically relocated supplies and equipment. These changes improved efficiency, reduced staff stress, strengthened collaboration and enhanced patient flow. By the fourth quarter of 2025, the Press Ganey measure, “Staff worked together to care for you,” reached the 90th percentile, while the likelihood-to-recommend score was sustained ending the year at 90.5.

Team engagement and fostering a culture of safety remain top priorities. The department promotes a fair and non-punitive environment where team members are encouraged to report safety concerns, offer feedback and collaborate toward solutions. A key safety initiative in 2024 focused on optimizing barcode medication scanning and eliminating system barriers to facilitate workflow efficiency and enhance patient safety. The department expanded its fleet of mobile scanning devices and added a dedicated ED pharmacist to support increasing patient volumes and acuities. These efforts resulted in sustained improvements in barcode scanning compliance, near elimination of unscanned medications and strengthened medication administration practices.
