Leadership regularly reviews incidents and trends to implement prevention strategies and strengthen a culture of safety. In addition to protecting patients, the department is committed to protecting its team members in the ED, as well as facility wide. Ongoing wellness initiatives, employee support and injury prevention efforts are designed to promote physical and psychological well-being. By prioritizing workplace violence prevention and reducing staff injuries, AHUV ED is fostering a healthier workforce and improving retention.

The team in this 21-bed ED also addressed unique challenges during periods of high volume with limited resources by making patient throughput a key operational focus. A multidisciplinary workgroup developed surge processes and patient flow initiatives. The department has also implemented strategies to expedite mental health evaluations, coordinate behavioral health resources and streamline dispositions. For patients requiring a higher level of care, dedicated transfer coordination supports timely placement and transportation to receiving facilities.
