Tina Nielsen, MS, RN, CEN, ACNS-BC, APNP
Recognizes excellence as a clinical nurse specialist in the emergency care setting. The CNS is recognized by the emergency department staff as an expert, in practice or education, who makes significant contributions to practice or to the professional development of others.
Tina Nielsen is committed to staff development and retention as well as collaborating across disciplines to drive improvements in processes that improve patient care. A CNS at Froedtert Health in Milwaukee, Nielsen is a sought-after preceptor for CNS and DNP students. She was instrumental in establishing an evidence-based practice fellowship and launching an initiative to help more nurses achieve their CEN. She advocates for safe workflows and processes that allow all care team members to work to the top of their licensures.
Among her efforts to improve patient care, Nielsen has implemented universal HIV screening, protocols for administering pain and nausea medications in the ED waiting room, and standardized multidisciplinary care planning for high-ED utilizers. In 2023, Froedtert received its first ENA Lantern Award.
Nielsen has served on numerous ENA committees, including a current term on the Emergency Nursing Advanced Practice Advisory Council, and she coauthored a chapter in the ENA Core Curriculum. She is the Milwaukee Regional director as part of the Wisconsin State ENA Council. She is also active with the Wisconsin Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists and has participated in grassroots efforts to promote APRN modernization legislation in the state. She earned her MSN from University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee
