The Marc and Laura Andreessen Emergency Department at Stanford Health Care
Stanford, California

Stanford Health Care is a 600-bed state-of-the-art adult academic medical center that serves the San Mateo and Santa Clara communities. It accepts transfers from facilities across and beyond the state of California that need the specialized expertise that SHC has to offer.
The Marc and Laura Andreessen Emergency Department at SHC is a 66-bed adult emergency department, a 15-bed pediatric emergency department with an 11-bed clinical decision unit. As a Level I adult and pediatric trauma center, SHC’s ED provides care for two counties and is the front door for over 47 percent of all inpatient admissions. This past year, the ED experienced two, once-in-a-lifetime experiences: moving into a brand-new facility and responding to a pandemic.
SHC’s accomplishments include Magnet Designation, Vizient Award for Quality, Niche Award, U.S. News and World Report Best Hospital Award, Comprehensive Stroke Center, Chest Pain Center, and American College of Surgeon’s Level I adult and pediatric trauma designation. Our emergency department is honored to be a three-time Lantern Award recipient and five-time Melinda Mitchell Award recipient for quality and service.
