Sara Daykin, DNP, RN, CPEN, TCRN
Sara Daykin has made significant and enduring contributions to emergency nursing by focusing on providing and expanding pediatric care educational opportunities for rural providers. Her leadership as the director of education for the EMSC Child Program was essential in expanding the program to include real-time nursing and physician consultations with rural health care workers. The virtual pediatric simulation training provided by Daykin and her team has increased the confidence of these rural health care workers, improved pediatric readiness and saved the University of New Mexico Hospital an estimated $2.5 million on air transport and hospitalization costs. Pediatric care is better in these rural communities because of Daykin’s leadership. She currently serves the director of the Pre-Licensure Program at the University of New Mexico where she facilitates didactic and clinical education for approximately 500 students.
