Jennifer “Jenn” Schmitz demonstrates enduring and substantial contributions to the

advancement of emergency nursing within the area of leadership through a specific focus in mentoring. She consistently advanced systems that strengthen emergency nursing practice and support the workforce through improved engagement, safety culture and leadership effectiveness. Schmitz designed and implemented tailored leadership development programs for emergency departments nationwide, providing practical, evidence-informed tools for emergency department leaders, with a focus on high-reliability practice and sustainable leadership.

Her ongoing entrepreneurial work, the leadership coaching business Authentically Yours, supports emergency nurse leaders in developing confidence, communication skills and authentic leadership identity. Through coaching, mentoring and facilitated learning experiences, she helps clinicians and executives cultivate clarity, courage and resilience – essential qualities needed to sustain the emergency nursing workforce.  In addition to being awarded a national nursing leadership award, Schmitz received invitations to author multiple chapters in an ED leadership textbook, consult on a national research study and to join the advisory boards by large health care corporations. Her work continues to influence emergency nursing through strategic leadership, mentorship and commitment to workforce sustainability. Schmitz is the chief clinical officer with the Emergency Nurses Association.
