Jefferson Health East Life Support Education Team, New Jersey
Recognizes a group or committee that has made a significant contribution toward achieving ENA’s mission to advance excellence in emergency care through the development of a sustainable project or program.
The Life Support Education Team at Jefferson Health East Region Hospital obtained $50,000 in funding for high-fidelity manikins that allow full resuscitation measures. The team organized cardiac arrest simulations and emergencies with the third-year ED medical residents for adults and pediatrics. Mock pediatric emergency drills focused on obstructed airways and drowning simulations to support staff to provide evidence-based care inside its doors and in the community. The team at this 125-bed emergency department, which sees about 135,000 patient visits annually, also supported six poster submissions for the New Jersey ENA Emergency Care Conference from new-to-practice ED nurses. Poster topics included de-escalating behavioral health patients, clinical alarm settings, human trafficking education, fall prevention and restraints. It is currently supporting a project using capnography in the emergency department.
