Camilia “Cam” Brandt demonstrates enduring and substantial contributions to the advancement of emergency nursing within the areas of education and clinical practice, with a dedicated focus on pediatrics. Over the course of her 40-year nursing career, she has remained a steadfast advocate for those unable to advocate for themselves by advancing care through prevention, education and mentorship across community, military, emergency medical services and health care settings. She led the development, revision and dissemination of pediatric best practices aimed at improving outcomes for children and families in emergency care environments.

Brandt’s innovation in pediatric advocacy and safety notably includes her leadership of the multistate W.H.A.L.E. – We Have a Little Emergency – program which uses stickers on vehicles and child car seats to provide critical identification and medical information for children involved in motor vehicle crashes. The program has disseminated nearly 10,000 kits to families from emergency departments, newborn nurseries and EMS agencies. This initiative supports both immediate clinical decision-making and the essential process of family reunification. Her work has had a significant and enduring impact on improving emergency care for children across diverse health care settings. Brandt is a project manager, PECC mentor and emergency medical consultant.
