Gordon Gillespie, PhD, DNP, RN, CEN, CNE, CPEN, PHCNS-BC, ANEF, FAEN, FAAN

Gordon Gillespie’s accomplishments over the last two decades exemplify excellence in emergency nursing. He has provided leadership as a member of the ENA Board of Directors from 2018-2020 and as an ENA Foundation trustee and interim editor-in-chief of the Journal of Emergency Nursing in 2022. He was the Journal’s guest editor for a 2023 special issue focused on workplace violence which, for many years, will provide the vision to others on how to transform emergency departments to yield safer work environments for emergency nurses. Gillespie pioneered research on the prevention, mitigation and recovery from workplace violence in emergency care. Research conducted with Gillespie as a principal investigator has received approximately $4 million in grant funding, and his more than 140 peer-reviewed articles have been cited nearly 6,000 times. He is a 2009 inductee into the Academy of Emergency Nursing and was inducted into the American Academy of Nursing in 2016.
