Elmhurst Hospital is an affiliate of the Edward-Elmhurst Health System serving the Chicago suburbs. A state of the art 249-bed acute care hospital with 70,000 emergency department visits a year, Elmhurst Hospital is one of 88 health care organizations worldwide to receive Gold Certification for Excellence in Person-Centered Care by Planetree International. Person-centered health care prioritizes participation of patients and families throughout the health care continuum with an emphasis on partnership, compassion, transparency, inclusion, and quality.
Department-based initiatives leading to Lantern Award recognition focus on leadership development, education, advocacy, and research. Exemplars highlighted a biannual CEN review course, a robust SANE program, ultrasound-guided IV education, sepsis bundle development, blood culture contamination and CAUTI initiatives, workplace violence mitigation and the creation of a pediatric specialty leader role.
