Edward Hospital Emergency Department

Naperville, Illinois

Edward Hospital is a 371-bed acute care hospital affiliated with the Edward-Elmhurst Health System serving the Chicago suburbs. The Emergency Department provides care to over 70,000 patients annually and is one of only two hospitals in the country to hold the distinction of a four-time Lantern Award recipient (2011, 2014, 2017, and 2020). The American Nurses Credentialing Center awarded Magnet nursing excellence status to Edward Hospital in 2005, 2010, 2014 and 2019, an achievement that only eight hospitals in Illinois and 100 in the country have earned. In addition, Edward Hospital was identified by IBM Watson Health as a Top 100 Hospital for 2020 and earned an “A” in The Leapfrog Group’s Spring 2020 Hospital Safety Grades.

Quality initiatives surrounding CAUTI reduction, blood culture contamination rate, the reduction of door-to-needle times for acute stroke patients and the implementation of femoral blocks for hip fracture patients are a few of the highlights from this year’s Lantern Award application. Additional exemplars focus on workplace violence mitigation, employee satisfaction, staff participation in evidence-based practice enhancements in fall prevention and physician-nurse collaboration to improve pediatric sepsis outcomes. Edward Hospital is honored to have been selected for the fourth consecutive time as a Lantern Award recipient.
