Frank L. Cole Nurse Practitioner Award

Recognizes excellence as a nurse practitioner in emergency care. The NP is recognized by peers, nursing and physician colleagues and patients as a clinical expert who delivers compassionate, competent care in an emergency care setting. The recipient is actively involved in promoting the role of NPs and strengthening the image of NPs in emergency care.
David is dual board certified and specializes in emergency services with more than 23 years of experience in administrative and clinical roles. He is an associate professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing where he serves as co-coordinator of the Emergency Nurse Practitioner Pathway teaching in both master’s and doctoral programs. David is a scholar with the UAB Center for Interprofessional Education and Simulation and a fellow of the UAB Interprofessional Leadership program. His accomplishments are evident in the development of the ENP competencies, certification exam content, expert item development and review and scholarship including multiple peer-reviewed publications and national presentations. Most recently, David served as co-author of the 2021 ENP Competencies. His extensive involvement, contributions and collaboration with national organizations helps shape, enhance and guide ENP clinical practice into the future.
