Trauma Nurse Leaders Cook Children’s Medical Center, Texas

Recognizes a group or committee that has made a significant contribution toward achieving ENA’s mission through the development of a sustainable project or program.

The Trauma Nurse Leaders have been present in the emergency department for 10 years. The program improved the quality of trauma care by decreasing disposition times, increasing safety awareness in the community and involving all staff in trauma training. This team is involved in continued advanced trauma training with staff in the emergency department and intensive care unit. The Trauma Nurse Leaders also volunteer in the community to bring awareness to the prevention and treatment of pediatric injuries. With this program in place, the length of stay for trauma patients in the emergency department decreased to an hour or less, and thousands of people from the community have received information on injury prevention.
