Christian Burchill, PhD, MSN, RN, CEN, of Pennsylvania

Christian Burchill demonstrates enduring and substantial contributions to the advancement of emergency nursing within the area of nursing research. He has made significant contributions to the science of emergency nursing. As a nurse scientist, Burchill conducted research focused on the prevention of workplace violence. The prevention efforts he developed at his hospital were replicated in other health systems.

Burchill further developed the Personal Workplace Safety Instrument for Emergency Nurses, which is currently the only instrument available that quantifies emergency nurses’ beliefs about safety from WPV. The tool is now being used nationally in multiple emergency care and multidisciplinary settings. Burchill has contributed to the publication of 32 articles with over 1,000 citations, which has led to multiple invitations to serve as a keynote speaker.  Burchill is committed to continuing research to address the problem of workplace violence as well as promoting a healthy work environment. Burchill is the director of nursing research and evidence-based practice at Penn Medicine Lancaster General and the associate chief nursing officer for research, evidence-based practice and innovation at the University of Pennsylvania Health System.
