Steve Weinman, MSc, RN, CEN, TCRN
Recognizes a nurse who has developed, implemented or advocated for quality, safety and/or injury prevention initiatives that have resulted in improved outcomes in the emergency care setting or at the local, state or national level.
Steve Weinman, the trauma education and injury prevention coordinator for St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, has taught thousands of people lifesaving and safety skills, including Stop the Bleed, hands-only CPR and opioid overdose awareness in hospitals and community settings. He and his team have delivered streetside Stop the Bleed sessions and distributed hundreds of free STB kits to area businesses. He works with community groups advocating for violence intervention program funding, and he started an initiative to promote safe firearms storage and distribute free gunlocks.
A member of the New Jersey State Trauma Advisory Council, Weinman was involved in the unification of a prearrival notification system aligned with National Field Triage Guidelines. He developed a prehospital trauma conference, coordinates continuing professional education for prehospital clinicians and has led training for first responders on responses to active shooters and civil unrest.
Weinman is working on a new injury prevention coalition to collaborate with law enforcement to target areas seeing increased pedestrian-struck incidents.
He has served as a New Jersey State ENA delegate and was president of the Greater Kansas City Area Chapter. He is a member of the ENA Trauma Committee, and he has contributed to the Journal of Emergency Nursing.
