The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, an integral part of the University of Pennsylvania Health System, is an 807-bed quaternary academic medical center located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and has been serving the community for over 200 years.

HUP’s 51-bed emergency department provides care to over 65,000 patients annually. Highlights of HUP’s emergency department initiatives include clinical nurse-led improvements in patient flow, an interdisciplinary rapid assessment approach to patients presenting with stroke symptoms, clinical nurse-driven data collection surrounding sepsis, and a robust staff-led disaster preparedness team.

HUPs accomplishments include Magnet designation, Beacon Awards, and holding a Comprehensive Stroke Center designation. HUP is honored to have been selected as a Lantern Award recipient.
