Nurse Researcher Award
This award recognizes an individual nurse who has made significant contributions to the profession of nursing, particularly the specialty of emergency nursing by conducting research, disseminating research findings, or using research to improve outcomes.
While serving in various health care roles over the last 25 years, Joseph Kennon is currently the emergency department director and health system chair of their ED consortium. With a focus on evidence-based practice and research trends, he has implemented performance improvement initiatives to address throughput challenges and improve patient outcomes. This work also allowed for the standardization of ED protocols, policy, and quality metrics across the health system. Through data mining and research from the Department of Health regarding STEMI deaths in his state, Kennon worked to implement a system-wide platform for communication between EMS- and PCI-capable hospitals in his health system.
