Barbara A Foley Quality, Safety, and Injury Prevention Award
This award recognizes a nurse who has developed, implemented, or advocated for quality, safety and/or injury prevention initiatives that have resulted in improved outcomes in the emergency care setting or at the local, state, or national level.
Courtney Edwards oversees the design, implementation, and evaluation of injury prevention and trauma-related educational programs for a Level I trauma center. She instructed the inaugural, Texas ENA sponsored Stop the Bleed course. Courtney continues to support the Stop the Bleed program across Texas through development of instructor capacity and participant attendance by developing an implementation guide to provide practical knowledge in how to create a local program. Courtney assisted in the development of statewide Stop the Bleed coalitions to develop partnerships, create effective/efficient programs, and assist in launching community initiatives. After several visits to the state legislature demonstrating the Stop the Bleed program, Courtney testified in support of mandating bleeding control kits and the necessary training in all Texas schools. Courtney continues to provide stretcher-side care.
