Barbara Baldwin, RN
Gail P. Lenehan Advocacy Award
This award recognizes a nurse who has had a positive impact on emergency nurses through a sustained commitment of advocacy for emergency nurses’ well-being and welfare or the welfare of vulnerable populations.
During her thirty-year career in emergency nursing, Barbara Baldwin founded Safety Whys, a copyrighted and franchised Babysitter Course for youth ages 11-17. She advocated for and received U.S. Congressional approval for National Babysitter’s Day, celebrated the Saturday before Mother’s Day. Her pursuit of the National babysitter’s Day was to give youth positive recognition for something they could relate. Baldwin noted kids could do a lot, if given insights and reasons for first-aid measures and interventions. Her next big goal is a resource center based in Helotes, Texas.
