Behind the Scenes Award
This award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions, behind the scenes, to promote ENA’s mission of advocating for patient safety and excellence in emergency nursing practice through their support of a member or members; an ENA advocate who is often seen but not heard and who donates countless hours to assist an ENA member or members in achieving local, state or national goals.y prevention initiatives that have resulted in improved outcomes in the emergency care setting or at the local, state, or national level.
Dr. Sapién, a pediatric emergency medicine physician, founded the only pediatric emergency department in New Mexico which has grown to a 24/7 clinical center. He has served as director of the New Mexico EMS for Children Program for the past 29 years which has developed over 20 hours of on-line pediatric emergency continuing education for nurses and other health care providers, and a home injury prevention app for families. His current project is the development of the Child Ready Virtual Pediatric Emergency Department telehealth network (CR-VPedED). The CR-VPedED provides children in rural and tribal areas access to pediatric emergency services.
